Now available, the complete sheet of stamps published in 1982 commemorating martyrs of Israel's wars.
This sheet includes stamps commemorating Naaman Belkind, Shlomo Ben Yosef, Hanna Senesh, Moshe Barzani, Dr. Moshe Marzouk, Eli Cohen, and others. Eli Cohen (bottom row, far left) is arguably the most famous spy in Israeli history. He played a key role for Israel iinside Syria for more than three years, until he was discovered, captured, and subsequenty executed in 1965.
The decision to issue a stamp sheet that bearing the portraits of 20 martyrs was made by the Ministerial Committee for Symbols and Ceremonies on February 9, 1982. This was the first time that the Philatelic Service issued a sheet containing 20 different stamps. Due to the nature of their lives and deaths, in most cases there were not many photographs of the twenty people commemorated here. The available photographs were processed into painted portraits designed by the Jerusalem painter Ruth Beckman. The design of the sheet was carried out by the designer Aryeh Glazer. Alongside the stamps. Each stamp has a face value of 3.00 Israeli Shekels.
